Career Counselling Talk on “Job Opportunities in the Banking Sector”
On 11th July 2024, an invited talk was organized at the Conference Hall of Assam Don Bosco University, where Shri Debasish Gangopadhyay, Chairman of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, addressed the MCA students of the Department of Computer Applications. The session, held at 10:00 AM, aimed to enlighten aspiring professionals on the dynamic career opportunities available in the banking sector. Shri Gangopadhyay commenced the talk by underlining the significant role
of banks in fostering economic growth and promoting financial inclusion, with a particular focus on the contributions of regional rural banks in uplifting rural communities. He offered a structured
overview of the Indian banking system and identified key employment areas such as customer service, credit analysis, risk management, financial advisory services, and, most notably, IT support. Emphasizing the growing relevance of technology in banking, he urged MCA students to use their technical skills in system security, software development, and data analytics to drive digital transformation within the sector. The talk also covered the recruitment process for banking jobs, including the IBPS and SBI exams, and provided valuable preparation strategies and interview tips.
													Shri Gangopadhyay highlighted the importance of soft skills such as communication,
problem-solving, and teamwork, essential for professional success in banking. He encouraged
students to stay abreast of financial trends and pursue relevant certifications to enhance their job
prospects. The session was highly engaging, attended by over 40 MCA students, who left with a
clear understanding of the diverse roles and expectations in the banking industry. The outcomes
included awareness of the sector’s IT needs, practical knowledge on recruitment procedures, and
motivation to pursue careers in digital banking. The event, coordinated by Dr. Pranab Das, Associate Professor, was a resounding success, bridging the gap between academic learning and
industry requirements, and empowering students with insights into one of the country’s most vital economic sectors.
