The series aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical economics and its application in real-world business decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Topics Covered and Resource Persons<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Session I:<\/strong><br><strong>Topic:<\/strong> <em>Market Dynamics: Forces that Impact Prices and the Behavior of Producers and Consumers<\/em><br><strong>Resource Person:<\/strong> <em>Mr Rajib Kr Das<\/em>, Ex-Principal (i\/c), Retd. Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Handique Girls\u2019 College, Guwahati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first session provided an in-depth understanding of market dynamics as the interplay of supply and demand forces shaping price mechanisms and production behavior. The resource person discussed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The role of innovation, competition, and policy interventions in influencing markets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Key economic concepts such as <strong>elasticity, equilibrium, and market structures<\/strong> (perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly, duopoly).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The significance of <strong>supply-side and demand-side economies<\/strong> in shaping market outcomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Case studies illustrating real-world dynamics:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>COVID-19 and global supply chain disruptions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oil price fluctuations (OPEC vs. Shale oil)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The rise of <em>Patanjali<\/em> and the <em>Reliance Jio<\/em> effect<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electric vehicle industry trends (Tesla and Indian EV market developments)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The session concluded with the message that <em>markets are living, adaptive systems influenced by internal and external factors<\/em>\u2014emphasizing adaptability as the key to both policy and business success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Session II:<\/strong><br><strong>Topic:<\/strong> <em>Market Failure, Externalities and Public Goods<\/em><br><strong>Resource Person:<\/strong> <em>Dr. Angana Barua<\/em>, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Pandu College<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second session delved into the causes and implications of <strong>market failures<\/strong>, when the market mechanism fails to allocate resources efficiently. Key highlights included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Understanding <strong>Pareto efficiency<\/strong> and the conditions for market success.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Causes of market failure such as <strong>monopoly, imperfect information, and externalities<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The concepts of <strong>positive and negative externalities<\/strong> in production and consumption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Public goods<\/strong> and the problem of <em>free riding<\/em> due to non-excludability and non-rivalry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Application of <strong>Coase Theorem<\/strong> and government intervention through taxes, subsidies, and pollution regulation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The lecture effectively linked theoretical constructs with real-world environmental and policy contexts, helping students appreciate the need for balancing market efficiency and social welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.
