The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Assam Don Bosco University School of Technology,
organized an Alumni Talk on 22nd May 2026 for the students of the department. The event aimed to
provide valuable career guidance and industry insights to the students through interaction with
distinguished alumni.
The program commenced with a welcome speech delivered by Dr. Leena H. Nemade, Assistant
Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, who warmly welcomed the guests and participants.
The session featured insightful talks by distinguished alumni, Mr. Helish Hojai, Associate Executive
(Engineering), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., from the first batch of B.Tech in Mechanical
Engineering, and Mr. Bijayendra Borah, Senior Officer (Marketing), Brahmaputra Crackers and Polymer
Ltd., from the fourth batch of B.Tech alumni of the Mechanical Engineering Department.
The speakers shared their valuable experiences and provided guidance on preparing for interviews in
Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) companies. They discussed important strategies and tips for succeeding
in recruitment processes. They also highlighted the differences in working environments and
organizational culture between PSU companies and private sector organizations such as Reliance
Petrochemical.
The alumni emphasized that a strong foundation in basic engineering concepts is essential for both
written examinations and interviews, as interview boards often focus on fundamental engineering
topics. During the interactive session, they also stressed the importance of handling work pressure
effectively, maintaining professionalism, and developing strong interpersonal skills, especially while
interacting with colleagues and subordinates in the workplace.
They encouraged students to focus on gaining initial job experience, irrespective of salary expectations,
as experience can open opportunities for career growth, job profile changes, and transitions to better
organizations in the future. They also motivated students to actively participate in university activities as
well as external events to enhance their overall development.
Furthermore, they advised the students to take their final-year projects seriously, as these projects play
a significant role in building technical knowledge and improving career prospects.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion where students actively engaged with the alumni,
asked questions, and gained practical insights into career planning and professional growth. Overall, the
session was highly informative, motivating, and interactive, leaving a positive impact on all the
participants. The event is coordinated by Pallav Gogoi Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical
