The training aimed to equip participants with essential theoretical and practical knowledge related to <strong>herbarium preparation, preservation, and curation<\/strong> \u2014 core skills for research and documentation in plant sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of <strong>60 participants<\/strong>, including <strong>faculty members, research scholars, and students<\/strong> from various departments and universities, actively took part in the programme, gaining valuable insights and experience under the guidance of expert resource persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 1 Highlights \u2013 Learning the Fundamentals<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The inaugural session, held at <strong>Block 1 Auditorium<\/strong>, began with an opening address by <strong>Fr. Zacharias George (Registrar)<\/strong>, who commended the initiative and encouraged active participation. <strong>Dr. Thounaojam Thorny Chanu (Head, Department of Botany)<\/strong> delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the importance of herbarium techniques in <strong>plant identification, taxonomy, and research<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first technical session on <em>\u201cIntroduction to Herbarium Techniques\u201d<\/em> was conducted by <strong>Dr. Ashish Kar<\/strong>, who discussed the fundamentals of herbarium science, methods of specimen collection, and identification practices. This was followed by a session on <em>\u201cImportance and Scope of Wild Medicinal Plants: Their Conservation and Future Prospects for Entrepreneurship\u201d<\/em>, which explored the sustainable use and economic potential of medicinal flora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Post-lunch, participants embarked on a <strong>field collection trip<\/strong> around the university campus, learning hands-on methods for <strong>plant specimen collection, documentation, and pressing<\/strong>. Under the guidance of <strong>Dr. Ashish Kar<\/strong> and <strong>Mr. Devanjal Bora<\/strong>, participants practiced <strong>plant drying, mounting, and labeling<\/strong>, reinforcing the day\u2019s theoretical learning with field experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 2 Highlights \u2013 From Preservation to Curation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The second day focused on <strong>specimen preservation and long-term curation techniques<\/strong>. <strong>Mr. Devanjal Bora<\/strong> conducted a detailed session on <em>\u201cPreparation, Curation, and Maintenance of Herbarium\u201d<\/em>, highlighting methods of specimen preservation, labeling, and herbarium organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a tea break, participants engaged in a <strong>hands-on training session<\/strong> where they applied their learning in <strong>data management and long-term conservation practices<\/strong>. The training concluded with a <strong>valedictory session<\/strong> and participant feedback, marking the end of a highly interactive and productive two-day learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Outcome and Impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The training programme proved to be <strong>highly enriching and impactful<\/strong>, achieving its objective of imparting <strong>practical botanical research skills<\/strong>. It enhanced students\u2019 scientific curiosity, technical competence, and appreciation for systematic plant study.
