Promoting Sustainable Urban Living through Awareness and Action<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Botany<\/strong>, under the banner of the Biowizard Club<\/strong>, celebrated World Habitat Day 2025<\/strong> on 13th <\/sup>October 2025<\/strong> at the Tapesia Campus<\/strong> of Assam Don Bosco University<\/strong>. The event was organized under the Viksit Bharat Abhiyan (1947\u20132047)<\/strong> initiative with the global theme \u201cUrban Crisis Response\u201d<\/em>, highlighting the importance of sustainable urban development, ecological balance, and biodiversity conservation in urban landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebration commenced at 7:30 a.m.<\/strong> in the Atrium, Block 1<\/strong>, with an opening address by Dr. Thounaojam Thorny Chanu<\/strong>, Head of the Department of Botany<\/strong>, who emphasized the relevance of this year\u2019s theme and the critical need for collective environmental responsibility in addressing urban challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Field Activity: Connecting Learning with Action<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A total of 61 students<\/strong> and faculty members<\/strong> actively participated in the event. As part of the day\u2019s activities, participants undertook a plant collection trip<\/strong> within the university campus to document and identify various species growing in the surrounding natural habitats. The exercise provided practical exposure to plant specimen collection, labeling, and field data recording<\/strong>, enhancing participants\u2019 understanding of plant biodiversity in urban ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collected specimens were deposited and curated<\/strong> in the Department of Botany Herbarium<\/strong> for long-term reference and future research purposes. This hands-on exercise reinforced the significance of herbarium preparation<\/strong> and the vital role it plays in biodiversity documentation and conservation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The World Habitat Day 2025<\/strong> celebration successfully blended awareness-building sessions<\/strong> with practical environmental engagement<\/strong>, offering participants a meaningful way to connect academic learning with real-world ecological action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
