The workshop aimed to provide students and faculty with both theoretical insights and practical exposure to DNA barcoding techniques &#8211; a modern tool used in plant taxonomy and biodiversity research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udf3f Workshop Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from <strong>66 participants<\/strong>, including students and faculty members from reputed institutions such as <strong>Pandu College<\/strong>, <strong>University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM)<\/strong>, <strong>Cotton University<\/strong>, <strong>Gauhati University<\/strong>, <strong>Assam Down Town University<\/strong>, and <strong>Bhattadev University<\/strong>. The <strong>resource person<\/strong> for the event was <strong>Dr. Akan Das<\/strong>, AGT, Biosciences, Guwahati Park, who shared his expertise on molecular tools and plant identification techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\ud83e\uddea Sessions and Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop was structured into a balanced combination of lectures and hands-on training sessions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Day 1 Highlights<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Session 1:<\/em> Introduction to DNA Barcoding &#8211; Concepts, Applications, and its Importance in Biodiversity Studies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Session 2:<\/em> Field Session &#8211; Guidelines for Plant Sample Collection and On-site Data Recording at the <strong>Tapesia Campus<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Session 3:<\/em> Laboratory Work -DNA Extraction and Gel Electrophoresis for Quality Assessment at the <strong>Department of Biosciences<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Day 2 Highlights<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Session 1:<\/em> Introduction to PCR and Barcoding Markers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Session 2:<\/em> Hands-on Training &#8211; PCR Reaction Setup, Amplification, and Introduction to Sanger Sequencing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Session 3:<\/em> DNA Sequence Analysis-Building Phylogenetic Trees and Understanding Applications in Species Identification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The workshop concluded with a <strong>closing ceremony and tea session<\/strong>, marking the end of an enriching academic experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udf31 Outcome<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop provided participants with <strong>practical laboratory skills<\/strong> and <strong>conceptual clarity<\/strong> on the applications of DNA barcoding in ecological and taxonomic research. It also fostered interdepartmental collaboration and academic networking among participating institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Departments of <strong>Botany and Biosciences<\/strong> expressed gratitude to <strong>Dr. Akan Das<\/strong> for his valuable guidance, and to all participants for their active involvement in making the event a success. The program served as a model for future academic engagements blending theory, fieldwork, and molecular biology applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-57e0d0ab
