Fostering Environmental Awareness and Traditional Knowledge<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Botany, Assam Don Bosco University, successfully conducted an outreach program titled \u201cUnderstanding Medicinal Plants and Compost Making\u201d<\/strong> on 19th<\/sup> November 2025 at Kamarkuchi Higher Secondary School, Assam. The initiative was part of the University\u2019s ongoing commitment to community engagement and field-based experiential learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary objective was to promote awareness about the importance of traditional medicinal plants and sustainable compost-making practices among school students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Highlights of the Event<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf3f Awareness Session on Medicinal Plants<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The outreach began with an interactive presentation focusing on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Importance and uses of medicinal plants in primary healthcare<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Common medicinal plants found in Assam, including their scientific names and therapeutic properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Household herbal remedies shared by students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The session encouraged active engagement, with students asking questions and sharing local traditional knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The second segment introduced students to composting as a method of recycling organic waste. The demonstration covered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Importantly, the program also served as an opportunity for the M.Sc. 3rd<\/sup> Semester students<\/strong> to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
