Awareness Programme on Indian and Indigenous Knowledge Systems

The Department of English organised an awareness programme on Indian and Indigenous Knowledge Systems on 12 October 2026 under the supervision of Dr. Pritam Priya Goswami and Dr. Smita Devi. The programme explored the indigenous animistic beliefs, agricultural rituals, and oral lore of Assam, Nagaland, and Mizoram, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and traditional knowledge systems of these regions.

The programme aimed to foster a deeper understanding of indigenous worldviews and their intimate connections with nature, community life, and cultural identity. Through discussions on traditional rituals, oral narratives, and indigenous belief systems, the initiative emphasised the significance of preserving and documenting these cultural practices as valuable repositories of collective memory and intergenerational wisdom.
