The Institute of Pharmacy, Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), organised the 9th Lecture Series on \u201cIntroduction to Intellectual Property: Protecting Ideas and Innovation\u201d on August 8, 2026, through an online platform. The programme was organised by the Training and Placement Cell and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Institute of Pharmacy, ADBU, with participation from students, faculty members and researchers from several pharmacy institutions across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session was conducted from 9:30 a.m. onwards, with 229 participants representing institutions including Assam Don Bosco University, Girijananda Chowdhury University, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya, Pragjyotishpur University, Regional College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, The Assam Royal Global University, NEF College of Pharmacy and other institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture was delivered by Ms. Kabhyashree Neog, Team Lead, Intellectual Property Services, Anaqua LLP, who provided an overview of intellectual property (IP), its importance in protecting innovative ideas, and the different forms of IP protection relevant to academic research. The session particularly focused on patents, trademarks and copyright, along with the procedural aspects of filing and prosecuting patent applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the technical session, Ms. Neog explained the legal framework surrounding intellectual property and highlighted the importance of protecting research outcomes before public disclosure. Participants were introduced to the sequence of invention disclosure, prior-art searching, drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications. The speaker also discussed practical issues such as patentability, documentation, deadlines and portfolio management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An interactive question-and-answer session followed the lecture, allowing participants to clarify their queries regarding patent filing, research publication and protection of innovations. The programme also highlighted career opportunities for pharmacy graduates in patent law, intellectual property and regulatory affairs, encouraging students to consider emerging professional avenues alongside conventional pharmacy careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme concluded with the presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation to the resource person, followed by a vote of thanks. Feedback collected from participants indicated a positive response, with the session receiving an overall rating of approximately 4.50 out of 5, while participants particularly appreciated the relevance and usefulness of the lecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture served as an important academic initiative to promote innovation, intellectual property awareness and responsible management of research outputs among pharmacy students, faculty members and researchers. The organisers recommended conducting similar awareness programmes and hands-on workshops on patent searching and patent drafting in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
