The Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University, under its mental health club SAMSKARA \u2013 Mental Imprints Shaping Behaviour<\/em>, organized an awareness programme on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day 2026<\/strong> on 7th April 2026. The programme was conducted in collaboration with Projonmo (NGO)<\/em>, with the aim of promoting awareness, acceptance, and inclusivity for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The observance began with a morning assembly conducted by the Department of Psychology<\/strong>, where students actively participated in various activities related to Autism Awareness Day. These activities helped set the tone for the day by sensitizing students and encouraging early engagement with the theme of neurodiversity and inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was aligned with the global theme for 2026, \u201cAdvancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),\u201d<\/em> highlighting the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities for individuals with autism within the broader framework of sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Objectives of the Programme:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 To spread awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder among students and faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 To foster empathy, understanding, and inclusivity towards individuals with autism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 To engage the university community in meaningful and reflective activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 To support the collaborating NGO through fundraising initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme witnessed active participation from students and faculty members of Assam Don Bosco University, reflecting a strong sense of community engagement and social responsibility. The various activities conducted were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Fundraising Initiative<\/strong>
    A fundraising drive was organized in support of Projonmo (NGO)<\/em>. Participants contributed voluntarily, demonstrating their commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at the welfare and inclusion of individuals with special needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Kindness Wall Activity<\/strong>
    A \u201cKindness Wall\u201d was set up at the venue where students and faculty members were invited to write kind, empathetic, and supportive messages for individuals with autism.
    1. The wall became a shared space of reflection and positivity.<\/li><\/ol>
      1. Participants expressed their thoughts, encouragement, and understanding through written notes.<\/li><\/ol>\n
