{"id":3732,"date":"2026-09-10T15:49:52","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T15:49:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.dbuniversity.ac.in\/dept-of-psychology\/?p=3732"},"modified":"2026-09-10T15:50:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T15:50:13","slug":"world-suicide-prevention-day-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.dbuniversity.ac.in\/dept-of-psychology\/world-suicide-prevention-day-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"World Suicide Prevention Day 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">World Suicide Prevention Day 2026 Observed by the Department of Psychology<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong> 10 September 2026<br><strong>Theme:<\/strong> <em>Changing the Narrative on Suicide<\/em><br><strong>Venue:<\/strong> Atrium, Block II, Assam Don Bosco University, Tapesia Campus &amp; Holy Hearts School, Dhangiri Gaon, Sonapur<br><strong>Organised by:<\/strong> Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University, Tapesia Campus, observed World Suicide Prevention Day 2026 on 10 September 2026 under the theme <em>\u201cChanging the Narrative on Suicide.\u201d<\/em> The observance aimed to promote awareness about suicide prevention, mental health, emotional well-being, help-seeking and the importance of creating compassionate and supportive communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The observance comprised two major initiatives a special morning awareness assembly at the university campus and a Mental Health Awareness Workshop at Holy Hearts School, Dhangiri Gaon, Sonapur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Special Morning Awareness Assembly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A special morning assembly was organised at the Atrium, Block II, from 10:45 AM to 11:05 AM. The programme was attended by students from different semesters of the Department of Psychology, students from other Departments under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and faculty members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The assembly included a welcome note, Lord\u2019s Prayer, poem recitation, video presentation, awareness speech, oath-taking and vote of thanks. The programme was led by student representatives from the BA and MSc programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poem and video presentation highlighted themes of hope, resilience, emotional connection, and the value of life, while the awareness speech focused on mental health, empathy, help-seeking behaviour, social support and the collective role of individuals and communities in suicide prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme concluded with an oath-taking ceremony, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting mental health awareness, supporting individuals experiencing emotional difficulties, and contributing to a more compassionate environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mental Health Awareness Outreach Workshop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the observance, the Department also conducted an outreach programme at Holy Hearts School, Dhangiri Gaon, Sonapur. The programme was led by Dr. Tuyir Riba and Ms. Krishnapriya Wangkhem, faculty members of the Department of Psychology, along with student volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outreach initiative was conducted as a Mental Health Awareness Workshop for the school students. The session focused on understanding mental health, recognising and communicating emotions, seeking help when needed, and supporting peers experiencing emotional difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through an interactive and age-appropriate approach, the faculty members encouraged students to participate in discussions and develop greater awareness of emotional well-being. The student volunteers actively assisted with the programme and interacted with the school students, gaining an opportunity to apply psychological knowledge in a community setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The World Suicide Prevention Day 2026 observance reinforced the message that mental health is an essential component of overall well-being and that open conversations, empathy, supportive relationships, and timely help-seeking can contribute significantly to suicide prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Psychology remains committed to promoting mental health awareness, psychological well-being, empathy, and supportive communities through meaningful academic and community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex
