Popular Science Lecture: A Journey Through the Universe by Prof. Dhruba Jyoti Saikia

Eminent astrophysicist, radio astronomer, and educationist Prof. Dhruba Jyoti Saikia visited the Tapesia Campus of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) on 8 March 2024 and delivered a popular science lecture titled “A Journey Through the Universe” at the auditorium of Academic Block I. Prof. Saikia, a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and currently associated with the Astronomy Centre for Educators at IUCAA, is widely known for his contributions to extragalactic astronomy, radio astronomy, and active galactic nuclei research, with over 6,400 citations to his credit. The founding Vice-Chancellor of Cotton University and former President of the Physics Academy of North East, he is also renowned for his contributions to science education and popularization. His lecture traced the evolution of modern astronomy and, in the context of International Women’s Day, highlighted the pioneering contributions of women astronomers. The 90-minute session concluded with an engaging interaction with participants. The event was organized by the Director, Interdisciplinary Research, ADBU, in association with the Department of Physics, and witnessed an overwhelming response with over 220 participants from SFAS and the Departments of Botany, Zoology, Psychology, and Economics.
