Career Awareness Workshop at Cotton Collegiate Govt. H. S. School
As a part of Outreach Programme, a Career Awareness Workshop was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Assam Don Bosco University School of Technology on 10th January, 2025 at Cotton Collegiate Govt. H.S School, Panbazar, Guwahati . The resource persons for the workshop were Dr. Buljit Buragohain, a prominent career counsellor of the state and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering of Assam Don Bosco University School of Technology, and Pranjal Sarma, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of ADBUSoT.
Dr. Buragohain elaborated on various pathways students can pursue after passing the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination. He discussed options such as ITI trades, three-year diploma courses in polytechnic institutions, and stream and subject selection in higher secondary education. He emphasized that students from any stream—arts, science, or commerce—can achieve success if they perform well and demonstrate their skills. He advised students to choose their career paths based on their personality, aptitude, and competencies to ensure fruitful outcomes.
Dr. Buragohain also highlighted the importance of general knowledge in competitive examinations and recruitment interviews. He encouraged students to cultivate the habit of reading newspapers and magazines daily to stay updated on current events. Additionally, he recommended listening to radio news programs and watching TV news to enhance their knowledge and suggested maintaining a record of useful information for future reference. He informed students about the career counselling services he offers over the phone (9435188630) every Saturday evening from 6 PM to 9 PM .
Another speaker, Assistant Professor Pranjal Sarma, emphasized the significance of hobbies in shaping one’s career. He pointed out that hobbies are not just a source of entertainment or leisure but can play a vital role in professional development and livelihood. He also shared insights about the various undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs offered by Assam Don Bosco University in disciplines such as engineering, arts, commerce, science, management, and pharmacy. The Workshop was attended by the Principal of Cotton Collegiate Govt. H.S School, Reeta Basumatari, along with other teachers. Students expressed their gratitude for the valuable insights they gained, commenting that the session was highly beneficial for their career planning and personal development.
