🌿 Celebrating International Forest Day 2025 at Assam Don Bosco University

To commemorate International Forest Day 2025, the Biowizards Club of the Department of Botany organized a series of engaging and eco-conscious events on 21st March 2025 at Crystal Hall, Assam Don Bosco University. The celebrations aimed to promote environmental awareness, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for forest biodiversity among students.

🌸 Flower Arrangement Competition: Celebrating Floral Diversity

The first event of the day, a Flower Arrangement Competition, highlighted the artistic spirit and environmental consciousness of students. A total of fourteen participants from various departments showcased innovative and eco-friendly flower designs inspired by the beauty of forest ecosystems. Dr. Pallavi Gogoi (Department of Chemistry), Dr. Jayanti Roy (Department of Biosciences), and Dr. Toshinungla Ao (Department of Botany) served as judges for the competition and lending their expertise to evaluate creativity, composition, and thematic relevance.

The event concluded with a note of appreciation to all participants and faculty coordinators for their dedicated efforts. The competition served as a vibrant reminder that celebrating nature through creativity can inspire environmental stewardship and collective action.

🗣️ Debate Competition: Balancing Economy and Ecology

In the afternoon, the Biowizards Club hosted a Debate Competition on the thought-provoking topic – “Prioritizing Economic Development of Forests over Environmental Conservation.”

The event was coordinated by Dr. Arup Jyoti Borah, with Dr. Jyotishman Deka delivering the welcome address. The session was moderated by Dr. Toshinungla Ao and Dr. Thounaojam Premlata Devi, ensuring a dynamic and balanced exchange of ideas.

A total of 14 students from multiple disciplines – Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, English, and Mass Communication participated, presenting insightful arguments grounded in science, ethics, and sustainability.

The esteemed panel of judges – Prof. Saibal Sen Gupta, Dr. Supriyo Sen, and Dr. Arup Jyoti Borah evaluated participants based on clarity, content, delivery, and rebuttal.

• Second Prize: Sasa Apollo (Botany)

• Third Prize: Manglemba Soraisam (Botany)

The debate encouraged healthy academic discourse and critical reflection on balancing economic growth with forest conservation.
