About Us
About the Department
The Department of Psychology was established on 12th September, 2012 as a constituent unit of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assam Don Bosco University with the aim of giving opportunity to the budding psychologists to bridge the gap between theory and practice. It is committed to excellence in teaching, research and professional practice. With a multidisciplinary and contemporary approach, the department aims to nurture critical thinking, scientific inquiry and ethical practice among students while addressing diverse psychological needs in society.
The department offers a Bachelor’s programme aligned with NEP, Master’s programmes with specializations in Clinical, Counselling, and Organizational Behaviour (OB), and a Ph.D. programme, providing students with strong theoretical foundations and hands-on training. Through a blend of academic learning, field exposure, internships, and research, the department prepares students to become competent, socially responsible and culturally sensitive professionals.
Students are encouraged to engage in real-world applications across healthcare, education, industry and community settings, equipping them to contribute meaningfully to individual well-being and organizational effectiveness.
Aim of the Department (Specialization-wise)
Clinical Psychology
- To equip students with scientific knowledge and clinical skills for assessment, diagnosis and intervention of psychological disorders.
- To develop ethical and culturally sensitive practitioners capable of working in mental health and healthcare settings.
Counselling Psychology
- To train students in therapeutic skills to promote mental health, personal growth and emotional well-being.
- To prepare students who can become professionals in providing guidance and support across educational, family and community contexts.
Organizational Behaviour (OB)
- To develop an understanding of human behaviour in organizational settings and enhance workplace effectiveness.
- To equip students with skills in leadership, motivation and organizational development for diverse professional environments.

Counselling Unit:
The Department of Psychology runs the University Counselling Unit, which offers professional counselling services to students to help them navigate personal, academic, and emotional challenges, thereby promoting positive mental health and overall well-being. The unit also works towards reducing misconceptions and stigma associated with counselling and help-seeking, fostering a supportive and student-friendly campus environment.
The Counselling Unit is led by a full-time counsellor, Ms. Krishnapriya Wangkhem, who provides dedicated mental health support to students. In addition, faculty members of the department offer counselling support as needed, particularly during their office hours. Visiting experts and counsellors are also invited periodically to conduct specialized programmes and workshops.
The unit further extends its services beyond the campus by engaging in community outreach initiatives, including mental health awareness programmes and interventions aimed at promoting psychological well-being.
