Campus Bird Count 9.0

The Campus Bird Count 9.0 was successfully organised by the Department of Zoology, Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), in collaboration with the Eco Club and the Alumni Association, Department of Zoology, from 13th to 16th February 2026. The event was conducted as a subset of the global bird monitoring initiative, the Great Backyard Bird Count.

A total of nine students from the Departments of Zoology, Physics, and Public Administration participated in the programme. The event commenced with a hands-on training session on bird identification using the Merlin Bird ID application, followed by practical guidance on uploading bird observations through the eBird mobile app. The training was conducted by Dr. Biswajit Chakdar, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, and Coordinator of the event.

During the four-day survey, participants carried out systematic bird observations across the university campus and documented their sightings using eBird app. A total of 63 bird species were recorded during the event, reflecting the rich bird diversity of the campus.

The programme provided students with valuable field exposure, enhanced their bird identification skills, and strengthened their understanding of citizen science and biodiversity conservation. The event concluded successfully with active student engagement and meaningful data contribution to a global bird monitoring effort.
