Field Visit to Kaziranga National Park

A total of 39 students from M.Sc. Zoology 4th Semester (Wildlife Specialization)B.Sc. Zoology 4th Semester (Honours), and B.Sc. Zoology 6th Semester (Minor) undertook an academic field visit to Kaziranga National Park on 6th –7 February 2026. The visit was organised as part of their curriculum to provide practical exposure to wildlife ecology and protected area management. The students were accompanied by Dr. Jane Wanry Shangpliang, Head of the Department, Dr. Biswajit Chakdar, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Dadul Kalita, Laboratory Assistant.

The group reached Kohora on 6th February 2026 and visited the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park in the afternoon, where students explored orchid diversity and biodiversity exhibits representing Northeast India. In the evening, an interactive session was held at the Kohora Convention Centre with Mr. Arun Vignesh, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Eastern Assam Wildlife Division. He elaborated on wildlife and habitat monitoring, population estimation methods, habitat management practices, and anti-poaching strategies implemented in Kaziranga. The session proved to be a highly enriching learning experience for the students. The Department felicitated Mr. Arun Vignesh, with a small token of appreciation in recognition of his valuable time and  insightful interaction with students.
