Films as a Pedagogical Tool in Management Education
As part of an innovative pedagogical approach, the Department of Management organised a film-based learning activity for students of BBA First Semester, IMBA, and MBA First Semester.
The activity was designed to demonstrate how films and carefully selected movie clips can be effectively integrated into management education to make classroom learning more engaging, experiential, and meaningful. Movies such as The Pursuit of Happyness and The Intern were screened and discussed with students, followed by effective explanations and interactive reflections facilitated by the faculty.
The films were selected to highlight important aspects of management and professional development, including motivation, perseverance, career growth, workplace behaviour, leadership, adaptability, mentoring, and the importance of practical exposure and internships.
The Pursuit of Happyness provided valuable lessons on determination, resilience, self-motivation, goal orientation, and overcoming professional challenges. Similarly, The Intern helped students reflect on workplace relationships, mentoring, professional ethics, adaptability, intergenerational learning, and the changing dynamics of the modern workplace.
A special emphasis was placed on helping students understand the importance of internships and practical exposure in their professional development. Through the experiences and workplace situations portrayed in the films, students were encouraged to recognise how classroom learning can be complemented by real-world experience.
The film-based learning activity enabled students to analyse situations, connect management concepts with practical scenarios, and participate in meaningful discussions and reflections. The initiative demonstrated that movies can be an effective pedagogical tool in management education, transforming visual storytelling into an engaging medium for learning.
Through such innovative teaching-learning practices, the Department of Management continues its efforts to provide holistic, experiential, and industry-oriented education, preparing students to become motivated, reflective, adaptable, and professionally competent future managers.
