Observance of World Alzheimer’s Day 2026

The Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) observed World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September 2026 through a special assembly aimed at creating awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and promoting a better understanding of dementia and its impact on individuals, families, and caregivers.

The assembly highlighted the significance of World Alzheimer’s Day, observed annually to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, challenge misconceptions surrounding dementia and encourage greater empathy and support for individuals living with the condition. The programme focused on understanding Alzheimer’s disease as more than a condition involving memory loss, emphasizing its psychological, emotional, social and familial dimensions.

Through the special assembly, students were encouraged to develop greater awareness of the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease, the importance of timely support and care, and the role of families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and society in ensuring dignity and quality of life for persons living with dementia.

The observance served as an opportunity for the Department of Psychology to reinforce the importance of mental health awareness, empathy, compassionate caregiving and community support, while encouraging students to become more informed and sensitive towards individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

The programme concluded with a message emphasizing that awareness, understanding and compassion are essential in building a more supportive and dementia-inclusive society.
