About Us
About the Department
Introduced in 2013, The department imparts comprehensive foundation in mechanical engineering through various courses in the fields of fluid and thermal sciences, design and manufacturing. Apart from the core activities, the department also conducts regular symposiums, workshops, industrial visits and hands-on sessions to inculcate practical knowledge that aligns with the needs of the industry. The Mechanical Engineering department has 13 full-fledged, well- equipped labs including the ISO 9001:2015 certified workshop, CNC lab equipped with various CNC kits such as 2 axis, 3 axis, 4 axis Lathe and Milling machines as well as a Robotic arm. In addition, a state of the art exclusive training center of Royal Enfield is established in the School of Technology.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is dedicated to excellence in education, innovation, and research, preparing students to tackle engineering challenges and lead in an evolving global landscape. We strive to equip future engineers with a strong foundation in mechanical principles, practical skills, and problem-solving abilities, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to industry, research, and society.
Our department offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines rigorous theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience through modern laboratories, state-of-the-art equipment, and project-based learning. Courses cover a wide range of topics, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science, robotics, and manufacturing, ensuring our students are well-prepared to address the diverse challenges in mechanical engineering.
In addition to academics, our faculty actively engages in cutting-edge research, advancing fields such as renewable energy, automation, biomechanics, and advanced manufacturing. Our collaborations with industry and research institutions provide valuable insights, resources, and opportunities for students and staff alike.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and continuous learning. By nurturing a community of inquisitive minds and skilled practitioners, the Department of Mechanical Engineering aims to shape the future of engineering and make a positive impact on the world.
Vision
To establish the department as a hub of quality technical education and research for aiding the industry and to strive for the upliftment of the North East Region and nation as a whole.

Research & Development
Patents
- Three patents in the area of honeycomb structure is filed from the Department on 21.09.2019. It aims to delineate a novel design of honeycomb structures to exalt crashworthiness. It is claimed to possess ballistic resistant application, however in the development stage now.
Publications
- One SCI indexed journal-Springer and two scopus indexed journals- Elsevier is published from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
- A group of B.Tech students has worked in Non traditional machining of Titanium alloy. They worked hard to write a research paper and it is accepted in Elsevier-Materials Today Proceeding. The journal is indexed in Scopus database. The same group`s research paper is accepted in an International Conference to be held in August 2020 at Hyderabad.
Innovation and Initiatives
State-of-Art Training Center of Royal Enfield Motorcycles.
As a part of industry-academia tie up activity, a state-of-art technical training facility has been set up in the SoT campus by Royal Enfield motorcycles. ADBU students as well as Royal enfield employees regularly undergo training facility. Students from other institutes too come for undergoing training in the facility.
Surface sanitization UVC gloves developed by students with potential to aid in the fight against COVID 19
Our Mechanical Engineering students of ADBU came up with a special pair of UVC gloves that can sanitize surfaces. The far Ultraviolet C they are using can kill microorganisms without penetrating human skin. Hope this finds a spot in our fight against COVID-19. Designed by Priyanuj Mahanta, 8 Semester and Dikshita Kalita, 6 Semester, 2020. see the video
