SCILAB For mechanical Engineers: A certificate course, November 2024

The Department of Mechanical Engineering successfully concluded its Value-Added Course on SCILAB for Mechanical Engineers in November 2024. This specialized course was designed for the 5th semester Mechanical Engineering students with the objective of strengthening their computational and problem-solving skills using SCILAB, an open-source software widely applied in engineering analysis.

The program was conducted from 29th July 2024 to 22nd November 2024. Over the duration of the course, students were introduced to the fundamentals of SCILAB programming, including handling algebraic operations, working with matrices, and solving both ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs). They also gained practical exposure to generating and interpreting various types of plots, which are essential for visualizing engineering data.

In addition to programming, the course integrated concepts of numerical methods, enabling students to approach real-world mechanical engineering problems mathematically and develop effective solutions using SCILAB coding. Emphasis was placed on applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations, thus bridging the gap between classroom learning and computational applications.

The course concluded with an examination, and it is noteworthy that all participating students successfully cleared the evaluation. The training not only enhanced their analytical capabilities but also prepared them for future academic and professional challenges.
