The Department of Bio-Sciences at Assam Don Bosco University successfully organized a Zero Plastic Drive in Campus as part of Earth Week 2026 (April 22–29, 2026). The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Vita Scientia Club under the Bharat Environment Program, with the objective of promoting sustainability and reducing the use of single-use plastics within the university campus.
The drive, held on April 24, 2026, focused on creating awareness among students and staff about the environmental hazards associated with plastic pollution. Participants actively engaged in identifying plastic waste hotspots across the campus and initiated peer-to-peer awareness efforts to encourage responsible waste management practices.
Students were sensitized to avoid commonly used single-use plastic items such as plastic bottles, carry bags, and disposable cutlery. Through informal interactions and awareness messaging, the drive emphasized the importance of adopting eco-friendly alternatives, including reusable and biodegradable materials.
A total of 31 students participated in the initiative, including 13 students from the 4th semester and 18 students from the 2nd semester. Their active involvement contributed significantly to the outreach and effectiveness of the campaign.
The programme successfully fostered environmental awareness and encouraged behavioral change among participants, reinforcing the importance of sustainable practices in everyday campus life. The initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Bharat Environment Program, which aims to instill environmental responsibility among young learners.
The Zero Plastic Drive stands as a meaningful step toward building a cleaner, greener campus and reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
