Awareness-cum-Sensitization Programme on Substance Abuse

The Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University, in association with Shrijan Rehabilitation Care, organised an Awareness-cum-Sensitization Programme on Substance Abuse on 11 September 2026 at Room 202, Academic Block II. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about substance abuse, its psychological and social consequences and the importance of prevention, timely intervention, rehabilitation and recovery.

The session featured Rituraj Bezboruah and Ratnajyoti Baruwati, Peer Educators from Shrijan Rehabilitation Care, as resource persons. Through their experiences and interactions with the participants, they highlighted the realities associated with substance use and the challenges involved in overcoming addiction. Their session emphasised the importance of awareness, supportive relationships, professional assistance and rehabilitation in the journey towards recovery.

The programme also included sharing by Asif Ali and Manzul Engti, recovering individuals who are currently rendering voluntary service at Shrijan Rehabilitation Care. Their personal experiences offered the participants valuable insights into the challenges of addiction and the process of recovery. Their narratives helped foster empathy and encouraged a more informed and non-stigmatising understanding of individuals affected by substance abuse.

The programme concluded with an emphasis on the collective responsibility of individuals, educational institutions, families, and communities in addressing substance abuse and promoting healthier and more supportive environments. The Department of Psychology expresses its appreciation to Shrijan Rehabilitation Care, the resource persons, and all participants for contributing to the successful conduct of the programme.
