Department of Bio-Sciences Advances Zero Waste Campus Initiative through Vermicomposting

The Department of Bio-Sciences at Assam Don Bosco University has undertaken a significant sustainability initiative titled “Solid Waste Management through Vermicompost for a Zero Waste Campus.” The programme aims to promote environmentally responsible practices and reduce the ecological footprint of the university campus.

As part of this initiative, the department established a bio-compost pit measuring 22 × 9 × 2.5 feet for the systematic and scientific processing of organic waste generated on campus. The facility is designed to convert biodegradable waste into nutrient-rich vermicompost, thereby supporting sustainable waste management while contributing to soil health and resource recycling.

This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to environmental stewardship and aligns with broader goals of sustainable campus development.
