The Department of Bio-Sciences at Assam Don Bosco University successfully organised a two-day workshop titled “DNA Isolation and Quality Assessment” on May 9 and 10, 2024, in observance of National DNA Day. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Nazneen Hussain and Dr. Jayanti Datta Roy in collaboration with HiMedia and DS Enterprise.
The programme brought together 17 participants from various institutions, including Pandu College, Royal Global University, B. Barooah College, and Dimoria College, fostering inter-institutional academic engagement.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural session emphasising the significance of National DNA Day, followed by a series of lectures on the principles of DNA isolation and agarose gel electrophoresis delivered by Dr. Jayanti Datta Roy and Dr. Nazneen Hussain. Building on the theoretical foundation, participants engaged in hands-on training sessions covering manual DNA isolation techniques, agarose gel electrophoresis, and DNA quantification methods.
On the second day, Dr. Rahul Kumar Verma, a scientific expert from HiMedia, conducted a specialised practical session demonstrating DNA extraction using an automated HiMedia system. The programme also included a campus tour and an informative presentation by the Head of the Department of Bio-Sciences, who introduced participants to the university, departmental activities, and ongoing research areas pursued by faculty members.
The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants, followed by a group photograph, marking the successful completion of the programme.
