The Regional Conference of the National Academy of Psychology (NAOP) on the theme “Recent Trends in Psychology” was organized by the Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University, Tapesia Campus, in collaboration with NERIM Group of Institutions on 8th and 9th November 2024. The conference aimed to bring together academicians, researchers, practitioners, and students to discuss contemporary developments and emerging trends in psychology.
The conference was organized under the leadership and guidance of:
- Chief Patron: Fr. (Dr.) Jose Palely, Vice Chancellor, ADBU
- Patron: Fr. (Dr.) Zacharias George, Registrar, ADBU
- Chairperson: Fr. (Dr.) James Chacko, Deputy Registrar & Director, SoHSS, ADBU
- Convener: Dr. Chandita Baruah
The advisory committee included distinguished academicians such as:
- Dr. Riju Sharma
- Dr. J.N. Vishwakarma
- Dr. Monmoyuri Baruah
The organizing committee comprised faculty members from the Department of Psychology, ADBU.
The conference was convened by Dr. Chandita Baruah, with Prof. (Dr.) Nachiketa Tripathi, President, NAOP (India) serving as Chair of the Scientific Committee, and Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary General, NAOP (India) as a key dignitary. The event was conducted under the patronage of university authorities and supported by faculty members of the Department of Psychology.
The conference focused on key sub-themes including Cultural Psychology and Diversity, Positive Psychology and Well-being, Environmental Psychology and Sustainability, and Artificial Intelligence and Behavioural Intervention. It aimed to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, highlight emerging research areas, and explore the application of psychological principles in diverse settings.
The programme comprised multiple technical sessions across two days, where research scholars and academicians presented papers on a wide range of topics such as mental health, resilience, parenting, cognitive functioning, well-being, and social issues. The sessions were chaired by eminent academicians from reputed institutions, ensuring meaningful academic deliberations.
Day 1: 8th November 2024
The conference commenced with Technical Session 1 held at Academic Block-II. The session was chaired by Dr. Sanjay Kumar and Dr. Rajnesh Meena.
Day 2: 9th November 2024
Day 2 included Technical Sessions 2 and 3 conducted in parallel.
- Technical Session 2: Chaired by Dr. Dilwar Hussain and Dr. Rita Rani Talukdar
- Technical Session 3: Chaired by Dr. Mahesh Kumar Maurya and Dr. Naveen Kashyap
A major highlight of the conference was the invited talk delivered by Prof. Tushar Singh on the topic:
“Music, Emotion and Cognition: Exploring the Linkages.”
Another invited talk was delivered by Dr. Surendra Kr. Sia on the topic:
“Psychological Barriers and Facilitators for Pro-environmental Travel Behaviour.”
The conference witnessed active participation from undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholars. Volunteers from ADBU and NERIM contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the event.
To recognize academic excellence, Best Paper Awards were presented to outstanding contributors across sessions. Selected papers were also considered for publication after necessary revisions, further encouraging high-quality research output.
Overall, the conference provided an enriching platform for knowledge exchange, academic interaction, and dissemination of research, thereby contributing to the advancement of psychological science.
