The Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University, successfully hosted the Regional Conference of the National Academy of Psychology (NAOP) on the theme “Recent Trends in Psychology” on 8th and 9th November 2024 at the Tapesia Campus, in collaboration with NERIM Group of Institutions.
The conference brought together academicians, researchers, practitioners, and students, creating a dynamic platform for discussing emerging developments and innovations in the field of psychology.
Leadership and Organization
The event was conducted under the guidance of:
- Fr. (Dr.) Jose Palely, Vice Chancellor, ADBU (Chief Patron)
- Fr. (Dr.) Zacharias George, Registrar, ADBU (Patron)
- Fr. (Dr.) James Chacko, Director, SoHSS & Deputy Registrar (Chairperson)

The scientific direction was led by Prof. (Dr.) Nachiketa Tripathi, President, NAOP (India), with Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary General, NAOP (India), as a key dignitary. The conference was supported by an experienced advisory and organizing committee comprising faculty members of the Department of Psychology.

The conference centered on contemporary and interdisciplinary themes, including:

Academic Sessions and Presentations
Day 1: 8th November 2024
The conference commenced with Technical Session 1 at Academic Block-II, chaired by Dr. Sanjay Kumar and Dr. Rajnesh Meena. Scholars presented research on diverse topics, encouraging insightful discussions and academic exchange.
Day 2: 9th November 2024
Day 2 featured parallel sessions:
- Technical Session 2: Chaired by Dr. Dilwar Hussain and Dr. Rita Rani Talukdar
- Technical Session 3: Chaired by Dr. Mahesh Kumar Maurya and Dr. Naveen Kashyap
A key highlight was the invited talk by Prof. Tushar Singh on “Music, Emotion and Cognition: Exploring the Linkages,” which examined the psychological connections between sound, emotion, and cognitive processes.
Another insightful session by Dr. Surendra Kr. Sia on “Psychological Barriers and Facilitators for Pro-environmental Travel Behaviour” emphasized the role of psychology in promoting sustainable practices.
Participation and Recognition
The conference witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholars. Volunteers from ADBU and NERIM played a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of the event.
To encourage academic excellence, Best Paper Awards were presented to outstanding contributors. Selected papers were also considered for publication, promoting high-quality research and scholarly contribution.
The NAOP Regional Conference 2024 served as a significant platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and academic growth. By bringing together diverse perspectives and research insights, the conference contributed meaningfully to the advancement of psychological science.
