Exposure Visit : Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP)

An experiential learning cum industrial exposure visit was organized for the B.Sc. 4th Semester students of the Departments of Zoology and Botany, Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), to the Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP), Guwahati. A total of 23 students participated in the visit with faculty coordination from Dr. Lima Hazarika, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Assam Don Bosco University.

The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to advanced biotechnology laboratories, aquaculture systems, and entrepreneurial opportunities associated with the advanced bioscience sector. The visit commenced with an orientation session conducted by the officials and scientific staff of Guwahati Biotech Park, Guwahati, where students were introduced to the role of GBP in promoting advanced biological research, innovation, incubation, and entrepreneurship in Northeast India. The students were given an overview of the facilities, ongoing research activities, and startup incubation programs functioning under the park.

During the exposure visit, the students explored various state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities, including Molecular Biology Laboratories, Microbiology Laboratories, Aquaculture Units, and Biofloc Systems. The students observed different molecular biology techniques and laboratory instruments used in biotechnology research and diagnostics. In the microbiology laboratory, they were introduced to microbial culture techniques, sterilization procedures, and laboratory safety practices. The aquaculture and Biofloc units provided students with practical insights into sustainable fish farming practices, water quality management, and the application of biotechnology in aquaculture production systems.

Overall, the experiential learning visit to GBP proved to be highly informative and beneficial for the students.
