The Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University, in collaboration with the NSS Cell, observed World Environment Day 2026 on 5th June 2026 at Holy Hearts Academy, Dhangiri Gaon, Sonapur. The programme was conducted under the theme “Climate Change” and coordinated by Ms. Kamakshi Chakravarty, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology.
Eight NSS volunteers from the Department of Psychology participated in the programme and engaged school students through a series of interactive activities. The event began with a plantation drive, emphasizing the importance of trees in combating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.
An environmental awareness session was conducted using an interactive video presentation on World Environment Day and environmental conservation. This was followed by an engaging quiz competition, where students tested their knowledge of environmental issues and climate change. The top three performers were awarded chocolates as tokens of appreciation.
To encourage practical learning, an interactive role play on waste management was organized, focusing on waste segregation, recycling, and responsible disposal practices. Students actively participated in identifying and sorting different types of waste into appropriate bins.
The programme concluded with a campus cleanliness drive, during which NSS volunteers and school students worked together to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.
The initiative successfully enhanced environmental awareness among young learners and encouraged responsible actions towards environmental conservation, sustainable living, and community participation.
