An Alumni Talk was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Assam Don Bosco University, School of Technology, on 7th February at the Conference Hall of the Azara Campus. The program aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practices, while also providing students with valuable insights from the experiences of their seniors who are now established in professional fields.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Buljit Buragohain, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Career Counsellor. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of alumni interactions and how such platforms help students in understanding real-world career paths beyond the classroom. He emphasized that alumni talks create opportunities for current students to learn from the journeys, struggles, and achievements of their predecessors. Dr. Buragohain also formally welcomed and felicitated the invited alumnus.
The resource person for the event was Mr. Abhijeet Bora, a proud alumnus of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who is currently associated with ITC. In his talk, Mr. Bora provided an in-depth exposure to the various segments of ITC, including its products, processes, and operational units. He described the functioning of different sectors within the company and how engineers from diverse fields play a role in its operations. He also shed light on the current job opportunities available in industries like ITC and similar organizations, while encouraging students to explore multiple career avenues.
A particularly inspiring part of his talk was the emphasis on the idea of becoming a job creator rather than only a job seeker. He motivated students to consider entrepreneurship, innovation, and start-up opportunities, where their technical knowledge can be combined with creativity to build successful ventures.
The event was jointly coordinated by Mr. Harajit Das and Ms. Leena H. Nemade, faculty members of the department. The session concluded with an interactive discussion where students clarified doubts and shared their thoughts. The alumni talk was enriching and inspiring, leaving a strong impression on all participants.
