Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) School of Technology organized a Career Counselling Seminar titled “Exploring Career Opportunities, Higher Education, and Employability Skills” on 4 June 2026. The seminar was jointly organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Career Guidance Cell of the ADBU School of Technology.
The seminar was conducted by Dr. Buljit Buragohain, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Chairman of the Career Guidance Cell. Addressing the students, Dr. Buragohain highlighted the wide range of career opportunities available to graduates across various engineering disciplines. He discussed prestigious competitive examinations such as the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) and the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), emphasizing their significance and offering valuable insights into preparation strategies.
He stressed the importance of undertaking internships and project work during graduation, noting that such experiences enable students to gain practical knowledge, strengthen their professional competencies, and enhance their employability. He also highlighted the importance of professional networking, explaining how building meaningful professional connections can create opportunities for mentorship, industry exposure, career advancement, and lifelong learning.
Dr. Buragohain spoke extensively on higher education opportunities, guiding students in selecting suitable postgraduate programmes based on their interests, aptitude, and long-term career aspirations. He also presented entrepreneurship as a promising career pathway and encouraged students to explore innovation, leadership, and self-employment opportunities.
As part of the session, Dr. Buragohain provided practical guidance on interview preparation and the employability skills required for successful job placements. He emphasized the importance of effective communication, continuous skill development, adaptability, and professional readiness in today’s competitive job market.
One of the key messages of the seminar was the importance of lifelong learning. Dr. Buragohain remarked that learning does not end with the completion of a degree and that the most successful professionals continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills throughout their careers. “A degree is just the beginning of lifelong learning,” he noted.
The interactive session concluded with a question-and-answer segment during which students actively participated and sought clarification on various career-related issues. The seminar proved to be highly informative and beneficial, helping students gain a clearer understanding of career pathways, higher education opportunities, and the skills required for professional success.
