A Career Awareness Workshop was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), School of Technology, at Jalukbari Higher Secondary School on 9th June 2026.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Buljit Buragohain, noted career counsellor and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Assam Don Bosco University, School of Technology. The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Sarifa Ara Ahmed, Principal of Jalukbari Higher Secondary School.
Addressing the students, Dr. Buragohain emphasized that career choices should be based on individual interests, abilities, and aspirations. He advised students to develop the habit of reading newspapers and listening to radio programmes regularly to enhance their general knowledge and awareness of current affairs. He highlighted the importance of general knowledge in various competitive examinations, job interviews, and career advancement opportunities.
Dr. Buragohain provided detailed information on various career opportunities and competitive examinations. He discussed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination, the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Combined Competitive Examination, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination, the SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination, Bank Probationary Officer (PO) Examinations, Bank Clerical Examinations, and several other recruitment examinations conducted by government agencies and public sector organizations.
The workshop also offered comprehensive guidance on higher education opportunities, skill development, entrepreneurship, communication skills, and employability. Dr. Buragohain noted that in today’s highly competitive world, textbook knowledge alone is insufficient for success. Students must continuously develop a range of practical and professional skills to remain competitive in the job market.
He further informed the participants about the free career counselling service that he provides every Saturday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM over the phone (9435188630), aimed at helping students make informed academic and career decisions.
The workshop was attended by Mr. Tapash Jyoti Kalita, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Assam Don Bosco University, along with faculty members of Jalukbari H. S. School and Class XII students from the Arts and Science streams.
The programme concluded with an interactive session during which students actively engaged with the resource person and sought guidance on various career-related issues.
