Earth Week 2026: Inspiring Sustainability Through Action and Awareness

The Department of Psychology, Assam Don Bosco University, organized a series of meaningful activities as part of Earth Week 2026, aiming to promote environmental awareness, sustainability, and social responsibility among students and the community. Conducted in collaboration with the NSS Cell, the initiatives combined community outreach with educational engagement, creating impactful learning experiences beyond the classroom.

Activity 1: Sustainability Drive at Kamarkuchi LP School

On 28th April 2026, students carried out a community outreach programme and cleanliness drive at Kamarkuchi LP School.

The activity focused on sensitizing young school students to the importance of:

  • Cleanliness and hygiene
  • Waste segregation
  • Eco-friendly habits and conservation

Through interactive and engaging sessions, volunteers simplified concepts of sustainability for children, making learning both fun and meaningful. This was followed by a cleanliness drive, where volunteers actively cleaned classrooms and surrounding areas, demonstrating environmental responsibility in action.

Impact

The initiative created a positive impact on both volunteers and the school community:

  • Improved cleanliness of school premises
  • Awareness of hygiene and sustainable practices among children
  • Segregation of waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories

Activity 2: SDG Discussion & Eco-Friendly Pledge

On 29th April 2026, an awareness programme was held at the Block II Atrium, ADBU Tapesia Campus, focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The session encouraged students to reflect on global environmental challenges and the role of individuals in achieving sustainability. Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing ideas and perspectives on real-world environmental issues.

The programme concluded with an eco-friendly pledge, where students collectively committed to:

  • Reducing waste
  • Conserving energy
  • Practicing environmentally responsible habits
