Special Lecture on National Panchayati Raj Day 2025 Organized by the Department of Public Administration

The Department of Public Administration, Assam Don Bosco University (Tapesia Campus), organized a Special Lecture on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day 2025 on 24th April 2025 at 11:00 AM in online mode.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Jayanta Krishna Sarmah, a distinguished expert in Political Science from Gauhati University. The session was organized to commemorate the importance of decentralized governance and its role in strengthening rural development in India.

The program commenced with an introduction of the speaker and the theme, setting the context for the lecture. Prof. Sarmah provided a comprehensive overview of the Panchayati Raj system, tracing its evolution and highlighting the significance of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992 in empowering local self-governance institutions.

He emphasized the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in promoting grassroots democracy, inclusive development, and participatory governance. The lecture also addressed contemporary challenges and future prospects of PRIs, including issues related to gender equity and the integration of digital tools in governance.

The session witnessed active participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students from undergraduate and postgraduate programs. An engaging Q&A session followed, where participants discussed various aspects of decentralized governance and rural administration.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Shilsha Floara Sangma, MA student, expressing gratitude to the speaker and participants. The lecture proved to be an enriching academic experience, enhancing understanding of local governance and democratic decentralization.
