Centre for Sustainable Tourism for the North Eastern Region

On 16th September 2025, Assam Don Bosco University, in collaboration with the Centre for Responsible Business and Novotel Guwahati, inaugurated the Centre for Sustainable Tourism for the North Eastern Region at the Department of Hospitality & Hotel Administration. This pioneering initiative envisions promoting responsible tourism practices that harmonize economic growth with cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, and community engagement across the Northeast.

The inauguration was held in the esteemed presence of Fr. Dr. Jose Palely, Vice Chancellor, ADBU, Guest of Honour Smt. Moitreyee Das, Deputy Director of Tourism, Government of Assam, Guest of Honour Smt. Brenda Lee Pakyntein, Joint Secretary, Directorate of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, Dr. Sonali Ghosh, Deputy Inspector General of Forest, Central Zoo Authority, MoEFCC, and Mr. Manmeet Singh, General Manager, Novotel Guwahati. Their presence underscored the shared vision of academia, government, and industry working together to establish the Northeast as a model for sustainable tourism.

The Centre will function as a hub for research, training, and cross-sectoral collaborations, empowering future professionals to integrate sustainability into hospitality and tourism. This landmark step reflects a strong commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and eco-conscious tourism ecosystem that highlights the Northeast’s unique cultural and natural heritage.
